month: July 2008

Amy and Matt were married on July 19th. Once again as I was driving there, it was pouring down rain, but it stopped right before I got to the church so I was very thankful. Amy and Matt, their family and friends, were all so great to work with! The whole wedding party was so laid back and easy going. It’s not very often whee you have an entire wedding day with absoultely no drama. I love that!! I wanted to send a special thanks to my second shooter for the day, Kelly Park She is a phenomenal photographer and feel really lucky to have finally gotten to work with her! Here is Amy and Matt’s highlight slideshow. There are over 900 images so it was really super hard pick just around 100 or so to put in here!

I can only post a few pics this time because I am waaaaaaay over my bandwidth…but that’s a different post! :)

I love this next series. We had no idea he was going to jump like a crazy man, and you can tell by Amy’s face, it was a surprise to her too!

Caught this one during the best Man’s speech when he was talking about Jamiaca…hmmm

ha ha the clients I meet or have met with know which one I am talking about…I have this old decrepid album that I have about 550, 4×6 images in that I always bring to show (in addition to the album I have that my sister designed) Although the images get updated, the book itself needs to go…it’s borderline embarrassing…anyways one of my other goals this summer was to get a couple new albums to show instead of relying on “old reliable” all the time. I am so excited because today one of them arrived. I thought I would share a few of the pages. the other album should be here any day…funny thing is I just randomly picked these two weddings because I still had them on my folder, so if Kristen or Nicole happen to read this…I used you girls for my new samples. I will probably make two more because there are two more companies I want to check out, but dang they are so expensive and to buy them all at once is killin’ me! anyways I have no experience really “designing” albums but I was pretty proud of myself…here’s a few pages from each album:

here’s some of kristen’s pages

I should also note, that I STILL have not figured out how to get rid of the blue box around my images when I post. i was told to “link to none” which I do, but I still get the ghastly box…anyways it’d not part of the page design so please disregard! :)

I shot Rebecca and Mike’s wedding back in November of 2006. gosh i can’t believe it’s been that long since I have seen them. I was so excited when rebecca emailed to say she and mike are expecting their first child this August! Obviously i was thrilled when she asked me to do her maternity photos. It is such an honor when past clients want to keep in touch and have me photograph more special events in their life! I love it.  Here are a few favorites:

There is this site that I go to all the time that is a forum for wedding photographers. There are photographers on there from all over the WORLD! Well I was reading on there today and there was a post about a photographer finding out his images were stolen and being used on another photographer’s website. I clicked to see the stolen images and I was ASTONISHED to see it was a Saint Louis photographer who stole the images. I will say that it is someone I haven’t really heard of but they do advertise on stlwed.com Out of professionalism I won’t give the name of the site…but I will give the link that shows the stolen images Click here to view them I think this is a great reminder to people that you really need to check out your photographer. Ask questions, make them show you a COMPLETE wedding, go with your gut. If something seems fishy it probably is!!

One of my favorite clients ever is doing something really cool so I wanted to spread the news. I am in awe of people who can do this kind of stuff because personally I wouldn’t run even if someone was chasing me with a knife because they’d catch me anyways…ha ha so here is what she wrote. Helping out the cancer society means a lot to me because my niece had cancer and I have lost someone very dear to this horrible disease. Please help if you can!!

Dear friends, family, colleagues:

I have decided to compete in the Accenture Chicago Triathlon this year on Sunday, August 24! Competing in a triathlon has been one of my lifelong goals (like finishing a marathon) and I finally get the opportunity to achieve this goal.

As some of you know, when I trained for the Chicago Marathon in 2006, I trained with the AIDS Marathon program where I was able to raise nearly $2,000 for the AIDS Foundation of Chicago. It was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life - being able to do something good for myself but also for others.

This is why I have decided to become a Charity Runner with the American Cancer Society. I wholeheartedly support their endeavors and their mission statement. I have committed to raise a minimum of $1,000 for the American Cancer Society before August 23, 2008. The monies you donate will support groundbreaking cancer research, provide up-to-date cancer information, advocate for all people to have access to screenings and treatment, and offer free programs and services to improve the quality of life for people facing the disease.

Please visit my personal donations page at:
http://main.acsevents.org/goto/Emily.Ulrich

Also, please e-mail me with any names of cancer survivors, patients, and those who have passed away from cancer you would like to honor. I will put their names on my jersey on race day in order to honor each and every one of them.

Please forward this on to anyone you think may want to contribute to the American Cancer Society. Also, feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions or call me at 314-330-9671.

Thank you for your support in my endeavors to make a difference in this world,

Emily Hseu Ulrich

Well, I mentioned in the last post I didn’t have anything for awhile and it’s a good thing I didn’t. I have been up to my ears editing bpics and engagements. I am just about caught up. I did save this guy’s life:

apparantly the new puppy’s favorite thing to do is eat bugs…which is so gross. We caller her “roxi the Bug Slayer”…But this guy was so cool looking I couldn’t bear to let him get eaten.

On a more serious note, my mom had heart surgery this week. They had run some blood work because she wasn’t feeling well and it showed that she had a heart attack and immediately had bypass surgery. Please keep my mom in your thoughts and prayers. She is doing much better now, but I was really worried.

I don’t really have any other news other than I was interviewed by a new site for brides. It’s called saint louis wedding news. Here’s the interview if you want to read it. http://stlouisweddingnews.com/wedding-photography/sjmacky-photography/

I met Katie a few years ago when she started teaching at my school. I am super excited to be teaching third grade with her next year. Just about a month ago Gwen finally popped the question and their wedding is already in November of this year!!! Wow she’s got some planning to do…ha ha. We went over to Bee Tree the other night for her engagement pics. I love that that park is only like 5 mintues from my house. It’s so pretty. Here are a few of my favs

Well, we’ve had puppy (still working on a name but it may be Roxi) for 2 1/2 days now and I swear it’s like having a baby again. I can’t go anywhere without her either being right under my feet or if she isn’t right under my feet, worried about what she’s doing because I can’t see her…ha ha and she cries…literally cries when she feels like she’s not getting attention. I think we may have a small diva on our hands.

Well the eye surgery went GREAT. I was a little freaked out yesterday because some blood vessels were broken in my right eye during the procedure which left bleeding and some mucus in there (GROSS and TMI I know) so things were a little foggy out of it yesterday (the blood cleared up but the slime didn’t) The left eye was fine. However today, much to my amazement, I woke up and for the first time since 3rd grade, I could see…I mean actually see…it’s so weird. I cannot wait to go see what my vision is today at my follow up appt. I bet it’s 20/20 or better. I was literally blind before. I couldn’t see ANYTHING without my contacts or glasses. This is something I have been wanting to do for a long time, but I had so many shoots booked back to back for the last couple years, I never had a two week period where I didn’t have pictures to take. So last year when I was scheduling for this year I made a point not to take on as much. SO all blog stalkers may be a little bummed that I don’t have any pics to post for awhile. I have some bpics but don’t always have girls that want me to post. The next wedding I have is on July 19th so I guess until then you’ll just have to look at misc. pics I put up. I go through images every now and again and try different processing techniques and that’s what I plan on doing for the next couple weeks….honing up on my photoshop techniques. I am getting a lot better at it!
